Alnitak, Flame & Horsehead Nebulae | Philip Henson
70 seconds single exposure @ISO3200 through my Orion ST80 of the area at Alnitak which shows the Flame and Horsehead nebulae quite well for its typically lackluster optical performance as an achromatic refractor. I’ve got about four or five frames from the same imaging run of this sky patch. Definitely need to go back and try a stack of the best 3 or 4 frames to see what develops… I’m still on the hunt for best performance to $$$ ratio on a small apochromatic astrograph device. Planning to get a unit with at least 100mm aperture or greater though at or close as possible to F5. Faster F ratio means less exposure time and fewer total exposures to achieve satisfactory results.
