M17 (Omega or Swan Nebula) | Philip Henson
Hydrogen Alpha “Ha” narrow band light channel only image of the Omega or Swan Nebula -M17. Single 184 seconds ISO6400 “boost mode” shot with darks and post processing cleaning. More testing with the modified Nikon D300 and part of an extensive shot series from earlier in the week. I’ve got some narrowband Oxygen III filtered data for the object also but need a few more frames as the initial run was not lengthy enough at the correct ISO setting to blend with the Ha data currently collected. Also this particular frame was afflicted with a bit of the main drive worm slippage or lash on the Right Ascension axis drive. I have several other frames acquired that were not affected so that there should be enough data for proper finals to combine with the Blue and OIII channels once I finish them. I’ve been trying to finish re-truing the RA axis drive after a troublesome attempt at adjusting out the backlash that affected this image and some others. The variation or fault is some what random as one one shot at 3 or minutes may be completely fine then one or more with the slippage or problem then maybe 3-4 or more would be fine or unaffected. Definitely time for a new mounting and drive systems!!! Working on it but may be some time before the new system is deployed as I am in the middle of a R+D development for a tech sector startup launch which obviously has priority over the sky watching at the moment….
